High School Political Philosophy

Dr. Andrew D. Carico serves as a Mentor Teacher at John Adams Academy and as an instructor with the John Adams Academy Online program. From 2021 to 2024, he served as the Headmaster of the John Adams Academy-El Dorado Hills campus. Dr. Carico has a profound love for classical education and its transformative role in shaping individual lives and safeguarding American liberty. He is committed to fulfilling the John Adams Academy mission, inspired by James Madison’s words: “A well-instructed people alone can be permanently a free people.”

Before joining the Academy, Dr. Carico spent nearly a decade teaching at the university level. He holds a Ph.D. in political science, with specializations in political philosophy, American politics, and constitutional law. His work has been published in various print and online publications, and he frequently speaks on topics related to American politics and education.  

Reflecting on his role, Dr. Carico shared: “John Adams Academy provides the kind of education that America desperately needs. By introducing scholars to the great books and initiating them into the great conversations, John Adams Academy helps scholars uncover greatness within themselves. Such an education will, I believe, also benefit our great country. It is an honor to be a part of such important work.”

Dr. Carico’s wife, Allie, is an administrator at a private PreK-12 school in the Sacramento region. Together, they have two young children and enjoy reading the classic works of C.S. Lewis as a family.
